Partner: Shree Golma Devi Secondary School

Beneficiaries: 325 students from Kadambas village area.

Objective: To construct 2 classrooms for class 9/10 optional studies and new library

Details: The school applied for funding to build 2 classrooms to allow the students of year 9 and 10 to split up for optional subjects. Many schools face this problem since optional subjects were introduced but the classrooms were not increased. The school had no library or computer room and this is also now an important requirement for schools that go up to year 10.

Outcomes: This application was approved in 2012. The school built the classrooms with a cement roof to allow them to build a second storey in the future. This took them over budget as the original application was for an iron roof. They were advised that any further funds would need to be raised within the community or from other donors. The school was revisited in December 2013 and again in January 2014 where NAFA was advised that they had raised the funds and would complete the classrooms before the new school year in April.

Details: The community purchased land and applied to NAFA for funds to build 4 classrooms for nursery to grade 3. Previously students attended classes in an old dairy building which was not big enough for the number of students, it was very old and beginning to crumble.

Outcome: The application was part approved at the NAFA meeting for the construction of 2 classrooms in a joint funding with Non Residents Nepalese Assoc. (NRNA). The Nepal Project Coordinator visited the school in mid December 2011 and early 2012 to view the construction of the school and provide an update on the project. The project was progressing well and so in Dec 2012 the school applied for additional funding to complete this pre school. In January 2014 a final inspection was made of the school by the NAFA project coordinator. The school now has three classrooms fitted out with small tables and mats for the young children making it a friendly environment for learning.

Beneficiaries: 35 students from nursery to class 3

Objective: To repair the roof, walls and install a new cement floor for this three room school.

Details: After visiting the school in 2012 it was noted that it was in need of repair to improve the school environment for the students. The school submitted an application which was approved and funded by a NAFA member.

Outcomes: NAFA members as well as the donor visited the school In November 2013 and were impressed by the work completed. The dark rooms had been transformed, fresh white paint on the rendered walls and the skylights brightened and allowed more light into the rooms. The dirt and rock floors were now covered by a cement floor which was also much better for the students.
